What is sound massage?
In the early 1980s, Peter Hess a German engineer became interested in ‘radiesthesia’ (the science of vibrational fields in the human body) embarking on a life changing study on the effects of sound, in particular traditional music, on the mind and body of people in Tibet and Nepal. This led to his work with ‘singing bowls’ and the creation of Peter Hess Sound Massage – as practiced by Christine Heckel.
Hess learnt from ancient Tibetan teachings that the world and the people who populate it, are made through vibrations. In fact, the holy mantras of daily prayers are regarded as the most important sounds in Tibet, as they produce rhythmic vibrations through words. Working on the understanding that each person is created with a unique sound resulting in a different personality, it stands to reason that sound and indeed vibration, is the key to health and harmony.
Similarly, according to Hess’ research, people in Nepal believe that ‘a man who vibrates harmoniously is healthy. If discordant sounds creep in, he loses his balance and falls ill. A sick man who listens to harmonious sounds will start to heal.’
Vedic healing is a therapy based on the effects of sound on the body, which originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Fast forward to today, and the theories are still highly regarded and are taught in the Hindu University, Varanasi, India.
